Waterproofing membrane on an exposed basement wall with drain line in the trench in Jackson, Ohio

The Challenge

Water was coming through the basement wall of this Jackson home every time it rained. Interior fixes only go so far when water is pressing against a foundation from the outside, and this wall needed to be addressed where the water was actually getting in. That meant digging down along the wall and protecting it from the exterior.

What We Did

We excavated down the full length of the wall all the way to the footer, exposing the foundation from top to bottom. Our crew then cleaned the foundation wall and prepped it for a waterproofing membrane, giving the surface a sound, clean face to protect it against moisture.

Next, we installed new perforated drain tile in washed gravel at the footer to carry water away from the house. We backfilled in compacted layers to limit future settling, then regraded so the ground slopes away from the home and surface water no longer runs toward the wall.

  • Excavated the full length of the wall to the footer
  • Cleaned the foundation wall
  • Prepped the wall for a waterproofing membrane
  • Installed perforated drain tile in washed gravel
  • Backfilled in compacted layers
  • Regraded away from the house

The Result

The basement wall is now protected from the outside, with drain tile carrying water away at the footer and grading that sheds surface water from the house. The homeowner has a real fix for the leaks that showed up with every rain.
