Leach Field Repair in Gallipolis, Ohio
Soggy ground and odors over a Gallipolis leach field traced to clogged lines, replaced with new perforated pipe on fresh gravel.
The Challenge
Soggy ground and a strong odor over the leach field told this Gallipolis homeowner something was wrong with the septic system. When we looked into it, the tank was fine, but several of the distribution lines in the field had clogged and failed. Wastewater was no longer spreading out and soaking in the way it should.
What We Did
Our crew excavated the failed section of the leach field and removed the old pipe along with the saturated stone around it. Clearing out that material gave us a clean start for the new lines rather than leaving clogged stone in the ground.
We installed new perforated distribution lines on fresh gravel, setting them to the right grade so effluent spreads evenly through the field. After backfilling, we regraded the area so roof runoff and surface water stay off the field and do not overload it again.
- Excavated the failed section of the leach field
- Removed old pipe and saturated stone
- Installed new perforated lines on fresh gravel
- Set lines to the proper grade
- Backfilled and regraded to divert surface water
The Result
The failed section of the leach field has new lines on clean gravel, and grading now keeps surface water off the field. The soggy ground and odor were addressed at the source without replacing the tank, which was still in good shape.
