The Challenge

A Gallipolis homeowner was tired of a rutted gravel driveway that washed out every spring. Regrading and adding gravel had become a recurring chore, and the soft soil beneath the drive was part of the problem. The homeowner wanted a permanent concrete driveway, and that meant addressing the ground underneath before any concrete was poured.

What We Did

Because we do both the excavation and the concrete, we started from the ground up. Our crew removed the old gravel and the soft soil beneath it, graded the area for proper drainage, and compacted a solid stone base. That prep work is what makes concrete last in the Ohio River valley.

We then formed, reinforced and poured the new driveway and gave it a broom finish for traction. All concrete cracks eventually, so we cut control joints to control where cracking happens and keep the driveway looking neat as it ages.

  • Removed old gravel and soft soil
  • Graded for proper drainage
  • Compacted a solid stone base
  • Formed, reinforced and poured the driveway
  • Applied a broom finish
  • Cut control joints

The Result

The homeowner traded a washed-out gravel drive for a reinforced concrete driveway on a properly prepared base. With drainage graded in and control joints cut, the new driveway is set up for a long service life without the spring washouts.
