The Challenge

Gravel kept washing from this Athens home's driveway out into the street, and the entrance had become full of potholes. The transition between a gravel drive and the road takes a lot of wear from turning tires and runoff, and loose gravel there simply would not stay put. The homeowner needed a durable entrance that would hold up.

What We Did

Our crew excavated the driveway entrance and compacted a solid stone base to support the new concrete. A firm base matters at an entrance, where vehicles turn and brake and the slab takes more stress than most of the driveway.

We then formed and poured a reinforced concrete apron that ties the gravel driveway into the road. The apron gives the home a clean, durable entrance and keeps gravel on the driveway where it belongs instead of in the street.

  • Excavated the driveway entrance
  • Compacted a solid stone base
  • Formed the concrete apron
  • Poured a reinforced apron tied into the road

The Result

The home now has a clean, solid concrete apron at the driveway entrance in place of potholes and loose gravel. Gravel stays on the driveway, and the entrance is built on a compacted base to handle daily traffic.
