The Challenge

A Pomeroy homeowner was dealing with a cracked, bowing basement wall and water seeping in after every heavy rain. Hillside lots in Meigs County put steady pressure on older foundations, and the soil against this wall stayed wet long after storms passed. The damage had gone well past the point where a patch would hold, so the wall needed to be repaired properly from the outside.

What We Did

Our crew excavated along the full length of the failing wall and exposed the footer so we could see exactly how far the damage went. With the wall open, we repaired and reinforced the damaged section, addressing both the cracking and the bowing that had been letting water through into the basement.

Before backfilling, we installed new perforated drain tile bedded in gravel at the base of the wall so water moves away from the house instead of sitting against it. We then backfilled and finished with final grading that slopes the yard away from the foundation, so surface water heads downhill rather than toward the basement.

  • Excavated along the failing basement wall
  • Exposed the footer
  • Repaired and reinforced the damaged wall section
  • Installed new drain tile and gravel
  • Backfilled and regraded away from the house

The Result

The homeowner now has a solid, dry basement and no longer has to worry every time a storm rolls through. With the wall repaired and water managed both below and above ground, the foundation is protected against the conditions that caused the damage in the first place.
