French Drain & Yard Drainage in Pomeroy, Ohio

Hillside runoff was turning a Pomeroy backyard into a swamp, so we installed a French drain to daylight and regraded the yard away from the house.

Yard regraded to shed water away from a brick home in Pomeroy, Ohio
Location Pomeroy, OH
County Meigs County

The Challenge

Runoff from the hillside above this Pomeroy home was turning the backyard into a swamp and pushing water toward the basement. Hillside properties in Meigs County often deal with water coming down from above, and without a way to intercept it, the yard stayed saturated and the house was at risk. The fix needed to address the water at its source.

What We Did

We dug a French drain across the yard to catch the water coming off the hillside before it reached the house. In the trench we laid perforated pipe in washed stone wrapped in filter fabric, which keeps soil from clogging the stone and lets water flow freely into the pipe.

The drain was run downhill to daylight so the collected water has a place to go. Then we regraded the yard so surface water flows away from the house instead of toward the basement, taking pressure off the foundation and giving the backyard a chance to dry out.

  • Dug a French drain trench across the yard
  • Lined the trench with filter fabric
  • Laid perforated pipe in washed stone
  • Ran the drain to daylight downhill
  • Regraded the yard away from the house

The Result

The backyard is no longer a swamp, and water coming off the hillside is caught and carried downhill to daylight. With the yard regraded, surface water now moves away from the house rather than toward the basement.
